Our phones and tablets get more powerful at a shocking rate, and while we see improvements to power management our mobile computing gear is often nearly dead by dinner time. To remain un-tethered from car chargers and electrical outlets, you'll have to carry an additional battery.
RAVPower's external battery packs a Samsung supplied 10,400 mAh cell which is almost five time the capacity of the average smartphone, or good for about one complete charge for an iPad 4. The dual USB ports are helpfully labeled "1 Amp" and "2 Amp", letting users know which port is capable of charging tablets.
A four light battery gauge shows approximately how much power is remaining. With two USB ports on board, it's a nice touch including two Micro USB cables. Unfortunately iPhone/iPad users will have to bring their own.
The RAVPower has its own Micro USB port to recharge. The power density of the battery means that recharging is going to take a while. We're talking hours. Maybe overnight. Who knows. The nice thing is, even a three quarter charge should just about triple your phone's run time.
