It’s a real life Texas story talking about real live Texas people in the latest production of Hands on a Hardbody, a TUTS UNDERGROUND production coming to Zilka Hall at the Hobby Center from June 12-22.
The story revolves around 10 hard-luck Texans looking for a new lease on life so close they can touch it. Under a scorching sun for days on end, they'll fight to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win it.
Houston actors make up the contestants and friends in this TUTS UNDERGROUND show and competition.
The cast includes Anthony Boggess-Glover as Ronald, Kevin Cooney as J.D. Drew, John Ryan Delbosque as Jesus, Tyce Green as Chris, Susan Koozin as Janis, Julia Krohn as Heather, Betty Marie Muessig as Kelli, Theresa Nelson as Virginia Drew, Cole Ryden as Greg, Drew Starlin as Benny, Michael Tapley as Mike, Brooke Wilson as Cindy and Brad Zimmerman as Don.
Inspired by true events, this musical features a book by Doug Wright, lyrics by Amanda Green and music by Trey Anastasio and Amanda Green. Hands on a Hardbody is based on the acclaimed 1997 documentary of the same name by S.R. Bindler and was produced by Kevin Morris and Bindler.
In 2013, Trey Anastasio and Amanda Green were nominated for a Tony Award® for Best Original Score for Hands on a Hardbody.
