Celebrities and television personalities alike graced the red carpet today at the 85th annual Academy Awards show held at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California. Every year handbag fans are treated to sparkling clutches and shoulder bags on the Oscars red carpet which are hot off the runway and not available to the general public. This year, the handbags on the Oscars red carpet were understated and barely detectable against glamorous evening and gala gowns.
There were three distinct handbag trends on the red carpet today for the 85th annual Academy Awards celebration. All three handbag trends involved hard box clutches which were small scale and classic in nature.
Black clutches: Celebrities and television personalities flocked to the black box clutch for the 85th annual Academy Awards show. There were smooth leather box clutches as well as crystal encrusted clutches which were classic and understated.
The tonal look: Many celebrities graced the red carpet carrying small box clutches which were the same exact color as their gown. This made the handbag blend into the ensemble; making it difficult for handbag fans to enjoy the beautiful beadwork, crystals and design details surrounding the clutches.
Neutral: Neutral hard box clutches were spotted all over the Oscars red carpet today as celebrities carried satin or crystal clutches in soft shades of beige, cream or soft tan. These neutral handbags were lost among the sparkling gowns and bright colors on the red carpet.
Although some celebrities chose to carry sparkling silver and gold hard box clutches, the majority of the handbags found on today’s red carpet for the 85th annual Academy Awards celebration were quiet and unassuming.
