The After School Arts Program (ASAP) invites students (kindergarten through adult) to participate in its Hand Drumming and Percussion workshops led by John Marshall.
Students will explore a variety of rhythms and chants from around the world with award-winning Master Percussionist John Marshall. Using an assortment of percussion instruments, including the West African djembe, North African dumbek and Afro-Cuban conga, participants will learn traditional drumming patterns and create original arrangements that feature both solo and ensemble parts. Rhythms from the Middle East, Central Asia, Brazil, India, and the Caribbean will also be presented. On the final day of class, family and friends are invited to join us for a concert.
The Hand Drumming and Percussion workshop will be held for 6 sessions on Mondays, February 25, March 4, 11, 18, April 1, and 8 at Woodbury Middle School in Woodbury. The class will run from 3:35 to 4:25 pm for students in grades 3 through 5; from 4:35 to 5:20 pm for students in kindergarten through grade 2; and from 5:30 to 6:30 pm for students in grades 6 through adult.
An ASAP volunteer will walk over students from Mitchell Elementary School in Woodbury to Woodbury Middle School for the 3:35pm workshop.
