Travel time to one of San Diego's boutique wineries doesn't take long at all when heading to Salerno Winery on Highway 67. Herman Salerno, Italian master vintner inspired by his muse and wife, Rose, considers himself a sculpture of wines. He continues the old-world tradition of hand-crafting wines and rebels against technology formulated wines.
His joy of craftsmanship and tradition is easily witnessed with a visit to the winery, where guests are welcome relax and stroll through the vines to admire both grape and sculptured art.
Open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to dusk, winos can find a friendly outdoor escape. On weekends, reserve a table and plan to stay awhile as the winery fires up its outdoor brick oven and the music man arrives to serenade listeners. Play bocce ball or simply enjoy the scenic view of vines and cypress trees.
