Hammerheads hold on to defeat the Knights Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale

The Naples Hammerheads RFC held on to defeat the Fort Lauderdale Knights RFC Saturday afternoon. The clubs met to play the match played on the Knights’ home pitch at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. By the time the match ended at 4 p.m., the Naples had secured the victory by a 24 to 18 margin.

In the game, Naples scored four tries and two conversions to earn its 24 points. While the Knights scored 18 points, all of the scoring resulted from six penalty kicks. Fort Lauderdale failed to reach the try zone during the match. This match improves the Hammerheads record to 6-1-0, while the Knights fall to 3-4-0.

Buccaneers beat Miami in Boca Raton

The Boca Raton (Fla.) Buccaneers RFC hosted the Miami RFC Saturday afternoon on the Buccaneers’ home pitch at Don Estridge Middle School in Boca Raton. Boca Raton would go on to beat Miami by a score of 29 to 11.

In the game, the Buccaneers scored two tries, two conversions, and five penalty kicks to reach their total of 29 points. The Miami RFC was limited to one try and two penalty kicks. As a result of this game, Boca Raton improves to 6-2-0, while Miami falls to 0-8-0.

Division III Action from Saturday

The Gainesville (Fla.) Hogs RFC traveled to Sarasota, Fla. Saturday to play the Sarasota Saracens RFC. Gainesville defeated Sarasota by a score of 31 to 24. Gainesville’s record for the season improves to 3-1, while Sarasota’s record drops to 1-3.

The Brevard Old Red Eye RFC hosted the Treasure Coast Pirates RFC Saturday afternoon in Cocoa, Fla. In this match, Brevard defeated Treasure Coast by a score of 37 to 17 to remain undefeated for the 2012-2013 Rugby Season. The Old Red Eyes improve their record to 4-0, while the Pirates drop to 0-3 for the season.

Results from AMU v. FGCU match

There was one officially Florida Rugby Union match on played Saturday afternoon counting toward the 2013 USA Rugby South Collegiate Championship. In this game the Ave Maria University (AMU) Papists RFC hosted the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Eagles RFC on the Papists home pitch in Ave Maria, Fla.

The final score for the match was AMU 63 to FGCU 0. This brings AMU’s record to 1-0, while FGCU’s record drops to 0-1.
