On Friday, Joe Gibbs Racing announced that Denny Hamlin and Drew Herring will share driving duties of the organization's No. 20 Toyota in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for the three remaining races on the 2013 series schedule. Brian Vickers, who previously drove the car, announced on Monday that he'll be out the remainder of the season because of an issue with a blood clot in his right leg.
The Nationwide Series is off this weekend and next and will return to action on Nov. 2 at Texas Motor Speedway. Hamlin will drive the car in that race.
Herring will assume driving duties for the final two races -- Nov. 9 at Phoenix International Raceway and Nov. 16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Hamlin drives the No. 11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing full-time in the Sprint Cup Series. He'll continue to fulfill those duties. Since 2004, Hamlin has make 140-career starts in the Nationwide Series and earned 11 wins.
Herring races for JGR part-time in the Nationwide Series. So far this year, he's made four Nationwide starts, three behind the wheel of the No. 54 and one in the No. 18. He has two top-10 finishes in Nationwide cometition this season. In all, Herring has 13-career Nationwide Series starts, resulting in one top-five and five top-10 finishes.
