According to CBC on Monday, Charles Hamelin of Levis, Quebec is in the final of the men's 1500m short track speed skating event at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Hamelin won his opening round heat earlier on Monday morning and then won his semi-final heat.

Hamelin, who is trying to win his first of a possible four medals in the men's 1500m at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, will be joined in the final with Jack Whelbourne of Great Britain, Tianyu Han of China, Victor Ahn of Russia, J.R. Celski of the United States, Dequan Chen of China and Han-Bin Lee of South Korea.

In an interview I conducted with Hamelin back in November, he stated that Celski and Ahn would be his greatest competition.

In the 1500m, Hamelin finished in first place in the World Cup standings in 2013-14, and he has also won two medals at the World Championship in the distance--a silver in 2011 in Sheffield and a bronze in 2013 in Debrecen.

The race can be seen on CBC at 5:15 a.m. on Monday.
