It is no secret that the popularity of Halo has declined in recent months. Where once there were thousands of players online in a single playlist, there are hundreds, or less. It is disheartening to see Halo, once the number one played game on XBox Live decline so rapidly.
Recently, Halo 4 dropped from the top ten most played games on XBox Live. For Microsoft’s flagship title, this is not a good sign. Even with a number of game-tweaking updates by developer 343 Industries, they just can’t seem to bring back the magic that Bungie’s Halo game possessed back in their heyday.
So one is left to wonder, will 343 Industries redeem themselves with Halo 5? They have gone on record in a weekly update saying “we will be better next time” But is next time too late? Will the fans who were disappointed with Halo 4 return for Halo 5? Only time will tell.
Halo 5 is likely just over a year away from a fall or Holiday release in 2014. Some fans have expressed concern at Halo 5’s condensed 2 year development cycle. Fans who are used to Bungie’s main Halo games releasing every three years, are concerned that 343 is not giving themselves enough time to release the polished masterpiece that fans are expecting.
Perhaps it is a good sign that 343 Industries has entered a quiet period of development. We have not had any solid news from the developer since “Halo Xbox One” had a reveal at E3 this past June. So, fellow Halo fans, we must wait patiently for 343 to break their silence.
