Axis Animation, the studio behind the Halo 4 cinematics, confirmed Sunday via a trailer what all gamers pretty much already knew - the first Halo game for the Xbox One will be officially titled Halo 5.
While not particularly shocking news, the release of this trailer does signal that both 343 Industries and Microsoft are getting ready to begin revealing details of the game. A bit of the plot has already leaked out via a now pulled Microsoft Store listing that read, "In possession of a mysterious data chip, Petty Officer John-117, aka Master Chief, confronts a new battery of challenges and tests in a Herculean effort to stay alive in a galaxy where sentient life is mercilessly hunted."
The question on the mind of many Halo fans is "Who is the hunter of sentient life in the galaxy?" Is it the return of the Flood whose origins were revealed in the Halo: Silentium novel, is it the return of the Didact from Halo 4 or could it possibly be both?
One thing is for certain is that 343 Industries will have it's second shot at producing a Halo but faces strong challengers in the shooter arena in 2014 from the likes of Destiny from the original Halo developer, Bungie, as well as Respawn Entertainment's TitanFall. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft's Xbox flagship will still have the legs to keep gamers interested.
