'Halo 4' skill rank won't show up in game, 343 Industries explains why

343 Industries recently announced that it was shooting for April to add Competitive Skill Rank (CSR) to "Halo 4" but it will only be visible through Halo Waypoint on the web, smartphones or tablets. Community manager Jessica Shea followed up Thursday to explain why this ranking won't be visible within the Xbox 360 shooter and why everyone is starting out with a rank of zero.

"We are focused on creating a seamless companion for pro and expert players without making a highly visible attractive nuisance for casual abusers and cheats," Shea explained. "I asked the team to make a mock-up... but please note this is not final."

You can see the mock-up at the top of this article.

When asked why all players will start out with a rank of zero instead of using the statistics gathered so far to come up with a CSR, Shea said, "We want to start every player fresh so they can experience the journey. We feel part of the rank experience is starting at 1 and feeling the sense of accomplishment when ranking up."
