'Halo 4' Regicide Tips

With Regicide being this week's playlist for the Infinity Challenge, it's a good time to give you some tips on how to score the most points in this gametype. First a quick reminder on the rules of Regicide which is a Free-For-All gametype where the first person to reach 300 points wins. You get points from kills, assists, and other various things during the game. The leader is marked with the king title that everyone can see where you are at any time. If the player stays alive long enough while being the king will get an overshield or a damage boost. If the leader is killed, he's worth more points than a normal kill which will help you catch up if you are behind.

Loadout - Now that the full list of rules are explained, lets get into some tips to help you come out on top and the first thing we will do is look at your loadout for this gametype. For your primary and secondary weapon, the choice is yours. You can use whatever weapons you feel comfortable with playing, but keep in mind there will be a lot of players running around for you to kill and no one to help you out if you're in a jam. While I did just say any combination is fine it's recommended that you use a Plasma Pistol as your secondary weapon alongside a precision primary weapon (DMR, Battle Rifle, Light Rifle, etc.). This combo will allow you to take down an enemy shield allowing you to eliminate them with just one headshot of your primary weapon. Along side your weapon choice, your armor ability and extra powerups will help play a role in your success while playing Regicide.

  • Armor Ability: Regicide is a fast pace, usually close quarters, gametype so a good ability to use is the Regeneration Field which instantly recharges your shield when you use it. This field will stay up for about 10 seconds but keep in mind that this field will not make you invulnerable while it's up. You can die while in this field but it's slightly more difficult to do so. Best practice is to get cover, load the shield and regenerate your shield quickly to allow you to get back into the action faster. One armor ability that you should not use at all is the Hardlight Shield, because when you use it in a FFA match your only delaying your death which provides no benefit to you. Hardlight Shield is only useful when you have a team that can help you finish off your kill.

  • Tactical Package: For a tactical package, your two best options are Shielding and Resupply. Shielding allows your shield to regenerate faster which will help when your hiding in cover while someone is coming in to finish you off. Resupply is a good alternative because it allows you to collect grenades off the ground from fallen spartans and having those extra grenades will be very useful while your trying to stay alive.

  • Support Upgrade: Your best choice in this department is Dexterity which will allow you to reload faster. This will be needed due to the fact that you will often see multiple people and that time between reloads could spell the end of your kill streak if you don't reload fast enough. If you feel this isn't a issue for you, then look into Explosives which will increase the damage done by your grenades and reduce the damage you take from grenades. Combine Explosives with Resupply and you'll have an endless supply of explosion mayhem.

You have your loadout setup and now it's time to get into the game and get ready for action so here are some tips that will help while your in the action.

Power weapons - This might be obvious but it must be said, get to the power weapons. These will obviously help you get an advantage over other players even if it's just to keep them away from the other players. Getting the power weapons will provide you with a good head start in the game and might even land you and early spot as the king which can be both good and bad.

Keep moving - You might find a spot that gives you an advantage for a few kills but the longer you stick around that one spot, the more likely someone is going to get the jump on you because they know where you killed them from. Staying on the move will provide more people for you to kill along with players constantly guessing where their next attack will be coming from. Even if you are the king, keep moving so they have to re-adjust to where you are if they decide to come after you.

Grenades, grenades, grenades - Make sure you do not save the grenades for a rainy day because you probably won't get a chance to use them if you hold on to them. Use your grenades whenever possible, even if you do not get a kill from the explosion. The blast should bring their shield down to give you an advantage over your opponent. Sticky grenades are the preference of a lot of players but to be fair all of them have advantages to one another so as long as you have them is all that matters. A good use of the grenades is to flush out enemies that might be weak and staying behind cover to regenerate their shields allowing you to pick them off as they run from the grenade.

Bringing a fist to a gun fight - Don't be afraid to melee your enemies if you are in close quarters, especially if their shield is down. One hit will spell 10 points for you and you might find that you will get more kills throwing fists in a crowd that you would trying to use your gun.

Points are points - The last tip I will remind you of is that even though the king gives more points, other players are still worth points as well. If the king is close and you have a shot at killing him easy, go for it. Otherwise go for the remaining players running around that might be going for the king and not focusing on you. Finding a good balance between going after the king and going after the rest of the players will normally keep you close to the top if not at the top. Once you're the king, use the rest of these tips to keep you alive and on top of the scoreboard.

Hopefully these tips will help you rack up the points in the Infinity Challenge and beyond. Happy Hunting!
