343 Industries and Virgin Game announced a summer-long tournament Wednesday for Halo 4 that will give out $500,000 in prizes including a $200,000 grand prize.

The Halo 4 Global Championship will kick off during the Rooster Teeth on July 5 and on Xbox LIVE on July 15. Competitors will battle in free-for all matches over a series of qualifying rounds for a chance to increase their standing on the global leaderboards.

The top players will be invited to Seattle, WA to compete in a two-day Finals competition from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 for the chance to be crowned champion and take home the cash.

Registrations for the tournament are being taken now on and those that plan to compete on Xbox LIVE will need to select the custom tournament playlist in Halo 4 and compete in at lease 20 matches a week. The players with the top four average scores at the end of each week will be declared the winners and will be eligible to compete in the Finals as well as win random special prizes.

For those that are wondering, yes you have to be 18 years or older in the United States to compete or the "age of majority" in other countries.

There will also be some live tournaments held at the Rooster Teeth Expo in Austin, TX from July 5 to 7 and Gamescom in Cologne, Germany from Aug. 21 to 25. The six finalists from each of these live events will join the 20 finalists from the online tournament.
