343 Industries issued a new Halo Bulletin Thursday where it announced that Halo 4 for the Xbox 360 is now officially in a sustain mode as the studio turns its attention fully on Halo 5 for the Xbox One while also teasing something else.
Community Manager Jessica "BS Angel" Shea noted that Halo 4 turned nine months old in August and discussed the future of the franchise by saying, "What is looming on the horizon for the studio is both exciting and daunting."
"We’re working on projects that you know about (the TV show and Halo Xbox One) and others that you don’t (insert absolutely zero clues here)," she teased. "Our team has blossomed from a few dozen to a few hundred, and it continues to grow at a healthy pace as new people are hired to make sure every team has more than enough resources to do their job, and do it well."
This just gave the greenlight for speculation about what the unannounced project to run wild. An HD remake of Halo 2 has long been rumored following the Xbox 360 release of Halo: CE Anniversary. However, there's always the possibility of 343 Industries exploring another aspect of the Halo universe possibly on other platforms as was recently done with Halo: Spartan Assault for Windows 8 PC, tablets and smartphones.
In the meantime, the team for Halo 4 has been scaled down and will now focus on maintaining the game's multiplayer by consolidating and removing various playlists to "enhance the overall health of matchmaking."
Regicide was recently moved into Rumble Pit while Legendary Slayer was combined with Infinity Slayer. Next week's Sept. 16 update will see the merging of Big Team Skirmish and Big Team Infinity Slayer into a single Big Team Battle playlist. Meanwhile, Multi-Team, Dominion, and Champions Bundle DLC playlists will be removed with the Sept. 30 update.
Here are the playlists that will be available after the Sept. 30 update to Halo 4's multiplayer according to 343 Industries.
- 8v8 - Big Team Battle
