Currently playing at Falcon Theater in Newport, Kentucky is "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)." I said in the preview that this show would have you seeing Shakespeare in a different light. I was correct in that statement.
Whether you love watching fighting under a strobe light, lots of "but" jokes, high-energy and fast-paced improvised performances, or to have an actor come off the stage and talk with you during the show, you are certain to be entertained. With an intimate set, only three actors playing countless roles, ghosts, a witch, and fake regurgitation, this show is a high success.
Shakespeare (Abridged) stars Thurman Allen II (primary narrator and fabulously versatile with puppets), Jay Dallas Benson (as all the women's roles and user of my new favorite word which I will not spoil for you), and Chris Smyth (who, among other wonderful bits, splendidly carries the end of Act 1).
With wonderful direction (Jared D. Doren) and technical execution (Ted J. Weil on just about everything), I am certain that the show wins for the funnest show ever to find props for (Tracy M. Schoster and of course, Ted J. Weil).
Whether you want to laugh, learn all you might ever need to know about Shakespeare within about 90 minutes, or get silly, this is the show to see. The audience apparently agreed with me as, at the end, everyone arose for a standing ovation and simultaneously marveled over how three men can run so quickly for so long without ever seeming to run out of breath.
