Get ready for a Halloween stick figure costume invasion. No, really. Stick figure costumes are in. And since the video of a California toddler done up in a home-made stick figure costume hit the web, not only has it become a viral video, but everyone wants to know how to make the costume for Halloween.
As Yahoo News Canada reported Oct. 25 Royce Hutain created the costume for his daughter, Zoey. He took a single band of LED wire and made a ring to circle her face, then took luminescent wire to stripe the arms, legs, and torso of a dark suit. The effect? An ambulatory stick figure.
What makes it particularly effective is the seemingly disjointed walk -- something that comes natural to a child that is in the early stages of walking.
Hutain posted a short video of Zoey in the glowing stick figure costume on YouTube on Oct. 22 and by Oct. 25 the video had over 8 million views. (KCTV in Kansas City reported that it had 5 million just the day before.) At present -- just before midnight, Oct. 26 -- the video has amassed just over 12 million views.
According to the caption on the YouTube video, Zoey is 22 months old and "loves wearing the suit.”
The stick figure costume has become so popular, many have asked Royce Hutain to manufacture a few. But Hutain, a professional photographer, says he really doesn't have time. However, posting on Reddit, he said that he was working on a DIY video for the Halloween costume.
Forget the Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke combo costume (inspired by the twerking incident on the 2013 MTV VMAs) that borders on what looks like pedophilia. And that Sexy Vagina costume Kristen Schaal designed for "The Daily Show" -- well, you know that that was just a joke -- right? Glowing stick people are the way to go trick or treating this Halloween season. And if you've got a toddler -- no question it is probably the cutest costume of the season.
So... be on the lookout for lots of the tiny glowing stick figures wandering the streets this Halloween...
