Halloween is no longer handmade costumes and cute ghosts and goblins. Halloween has grown into a commercial nightmare of zombies, witches and wizards, characters out of a Comic Com or an anime venture. The literary supernatural thrills us during the Halloween season. Season? Yes, Halloween has grown from Trick or Treat night to an entire season.
Film & Theater

Celebrate at the Federal Taphouse, 201 N Queen Street. On Thursday, 31 October, there will be a costume contest with prizes. On Saturday, 2 November there will be a Halloween/Oktoberfest beard off contest. Register by 1 November to be entered.
Jason’s Woods has been terrorizing people for over 20 years. Make your way through the Chamber of Horror, but be sure not to get Lost in Jason’s Woods! Other attractions include the Horrifying Hayride, Carnival of Fear and the Pirate’s Revenge. This season also brings the new Paranormal Bus Tour. The bus tour will transport the very brave to a 150 year old mansion, at which a team of paranormal investigators will lead a haunted exploration. The Field of Screams features over 100 live actors and is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through 3 November. Located at 191 College Avenue in nearby Mountville, this Halloween venue offers haunted hayrides, a Den of Darkness, the Frightmare Asylum again this year. Explore the historic and ghostly Rock Ford Plantation. Rock Ford is the home of Revolutionary War General Edward Hand. Born in Ireland, General Hand resigned his commission from the British in 1774 and came to Lancaster with the intent to practice medicine. He joined the 1st Battalion of Pennsylvania Rifleman in 1775. He led troops in many battles until becoming Adjutant General to George Washington in 1781. He was active politically after the war. He and his family moved to Rock Ford in 1794. It was there he died on 3 September 1802. The Plantation is located in Lancaster County Central Park, 881 Rockford Road. The Lizard Lounge is stretching out Halloween. On Thursday celebrate with The Slackwater News, Ruby Street, and Mean Reds. The party gets started at 8 p.m. Tickets are just $5 but you do have to be 21 years of age. The party continues on Friday at the weekly DJ Dance Party. There will be a costume contest with prizes as well. No cover charge, but you do have to be 21 years of age. The Lizard Lounge is downstairs at the Chameleon Club, 223 N. Water Street. Explore the historic home of Revolutionary War General Edward Hand at the 4th Annual Headless Horseman’s Ball on Saturday, 26 October. The fundraiser event runs from 7 p.m. to midnight. The menu is prepared by Chef Pierre DeRagon. Entrees include Boeuf Bourguignon and Coq au Vin. The Rock Ford Plantation is located in Lancaster County Central Park at 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster. Join the Dawn of the Lititz Dead on Saturday, 19 October in this zombie filled event. The event is a combination of sorts of an obstacle course, a 5K, and flag football with the zombie apocalypse thrown in for added excitement and challenges. The registration cost for zombies is $25 and $45 for runners. Registration closes 16 October. Proceeds of the run will benefit the Lititz Springs Park.
