This recipe is a fun example of how you can turn normal recipes into Halloween favorites! The yummy garlic in this recipe wards of vampires of course. And the crispy croutons? They are in fun Halloween shapes! This is a fun recipe to serve your little trick-or-treaters before they head out for treats.
Recipe:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic
2 large potatoes
3 cans condensed tomato soup
4 cups water
3 or 4 dashes of hot sauce
1 teaspoon ground pepper
4 or 5 slices of bread
2 Tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Method:
Brown the ground beef in a large stock pot. When there is just a little bit of pink left, add the chopped onions and garlic. Cook until the beef is all brown, and the onions are soft. Drain off the grease, and rinse to get off extra grease.
Add back in to the pot. Pour in the tomato soups, water and hot sauce. Peel and chop your potatoes while it comes to a boil. Add the potatoes and ground pepper. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Uncover and stir. Cook an additonal 30 minutes uncovered. The potatoes should be soft, and the soup should be thickening.
Meanwhile, use fun Halloween cookie cutters to cut out shapes in the slices of bread. Melt the 2 Tablespoons of butter in the microwave, and stir in the garlic powder. Brush on to the bread shapes. Broil on high until crispy, about 5 minutes. Flip and broil the other side an additional 3 minutes until crispy.
Serve the soup hot, in big bowls. Top with the crispy, spooky croutons!
