Local and national Halloween costume contests and parties are great alternatives to trick and treating in neighborhoods. It also provides the opportunities for the children with disabilities to participate in the same activities as their non-disabled peers.
On the national front, Adaptivemall.com has a Halloween costume contest with simple requirements. You create a costume, take a picture and post it on the Facebook page of Adaptivemall. The prize is a $50 gift certificate on the website.

For 23 years, the Double M Haunted Hayride has been scaring and delighting families. Reservations are required and must be made by phone 518-884-9122 and all sales are cash only. Patrons can download coupons online and local papers often carry dollar off coupons.
Crossgates Mall O Ween takes place on October 31st from 3 PM to 6 PM. Starting at 3 PM the first 100 children can receive free photos and Radio Disney provides prizes and games. Children can trick or treat in the mall and participate in the costume contest.
