Halloween Know-How: Use this link to locate sex offenders on your street

You don't have to be paranoid to be safety conscious at Halloween. And according to the AJC and this Atlanta crime examiner's article, "Operation Safe Halloween," you need to be watching out for your family and yourself this holiday weekend.

Don't rely soley on the Georgia Department of Corrections parole and probation officers to protect you from sex offenders this Halloween. You can also protect your family and yourself with the Family Watchdog's website.

This website allows you to type in your street address and see who lives in your neighborhood that is a registered sex offender. The map differentiates between sex offenders who prey on children and those who prey on adult women, so you can search it based on your concerns.

No need to call on that sex offender home on your trick-or-treat Halloween excursions this weekend now, eh?!

Halloween is a scary enough time without coming face-to-face with a sexual offender looking to repeat his crimes. Don't make it easy for them by not knowing your own neighborhood's residents.

The Family Watchdog website is free and tells you what the offender's offense was exactly, his name, when he was released and a wealth of other information to help you protect yourself.

Georgia's Department of Corrections is to be commended for their proactive stance in seeking to have supervised sex offenders remove themselves from the Halloween scene, so to speak. But with only 6,000 supervised sex offenders actually being monitored, that leaves another 13,000 (not on parole or probation) left for the rest of us to watch.

Use the free Watchdog website this Halloween weekend (and even later) to know of neighborhood dangers to you and your children all year long. Sexual predators will be watching you and your children; shouldn't you be watching them, too, especially on a night when everyone is "masked?"
