Halloween is coming: Star Wars, Disney, and Pixar get ready for the ultimate day for pretend play

It is only the beginning of August, but Toys R Us is already strutting their Halloween stuff. This year, why not jump on the bandwagon and get done early rather than scrambling in about six weeks?

What is “in” for Halloween this year?

A great way to figure out what is in style for Halloween is to look at the book bags you bought for back to school. The same characters that are loved for backpacks and folders will flood the streets in late October. Look at your kid’s favorite movies, TV shoes, book characters, and video games. Check out their t-shirts too. Their favorite characters are all over their wardrobe, Halloween just lets them do more than wear them as they can pretend to actually BE them.

What is “out” for Halloween?

Please don’t put a sheet on your kid’s head and call him a ghost. In the coming weeks, I will post some homemade Halloween costume ideas that will have enough creativity to set your little one apart, but be stylish enough not to make it look like a cheap alternative to a store bought one.

Where to buy Halloween costumes off the shelf

If you are more of one to just buy a costume and be done with it, I don’t blame you at all. Check out the selection from on-line vendors like Toys R Us, costumes, com, Amazon, and Party City. As the end-of-summer sales clear the shelves at your local store, you will soon see costumes show up their too.

If you have a specific costume you would like to see included in my “how-tos” to come, please shoot me an email and I will start working on some ideas for you. If you have a picture of one you have made, or if you posted a You Tube video of one, let me know. I would be happy to share your success stories!
