Halloween is here, which means watching horror movies for many fans of the genre. Here’s a fun way to be part of horror history. There of horrors biggest legends have teamed up to bring the story of Edgar Allan Poe to film in their own unique way. Stuart Gordon, Jeffrey Combs and Dennis Paoli worked together on “From Beyond” and “Re-Animator.” Now, they have launched a KickStarter campaign to make the film of “Nevermore.” According to an October 24 post to the “Nevermore” Facebook page, there is only a week of fundraising left, but the trio hasn’t given up hope that they’ll reach their goal of raising
Combs will star as Poe in the film, which is adapted from the script for the stage play of the same name, which received great acclaim and frequently sold out. It is set in 1848, a year before Poe’s death and a year after he lost his beloved wife.
Despite becoming famous for writing “The Raven,” he was still living in poverty and battling alcoholism. Even with these challenges, he was determined to earn the respect of the literary community.
The film uses Edgar Allen’s actual letters and essays for text. Reviews of his appearances were used to create the scenes. The trios goal is to show audiences the heart of Poe, a man who was often his own worst enemy and lived a life with more bizarre tragedy than his strangest works of fiction.
