“The Darkness falls. The light is dim. The Shadows call; we now begin! We sing the souls of those inside. You cannot run; you cannot hide! For this is Haunt.”
The voice of the Overlord, who reigns once again over Worlds of Fun’s Halloween Haunt, rings out over the creeping fog and sinister darkness of the theme park. It’s time for kids under the age of 14 to leave the park, as the Overlord announces, “I call upon the Freaks of the Earth. Tonight is YOUR night. Seek the Unbelievers, and let them fear!”
And there is plenty to fear this year at Worlds of Fun’s Halloween Haunt. Over 300 terrifying characters lurk fog-filled midways in nine different horrifying haunts. Hordes of Screamsters inhabit the Fright Zone; a psychotic serial killer turns his victims into dolls in Master McCarthy’s Doll Factory; inmates take control at Lakeside Mental Hospital on Asylum Island; over a century’s worth of bloodthirsty vampires skulk within the catacomb, Lair of the Vampire; ghosts and other creatures of the night live again in Dominion of Doom (my own personal favorite haunt); Old McDonald’s Farm becomes a massacre in Bloodshed; outlaw spirits click their spurs in Outlaws Revenge; and a pack of deranged clowns and circus freaks taunt those who wander into CarnEvil.
New for 2010 is CornStalkers. Legend has it that the crazed farmhands built countless scarecrows to ward off any would-be trespassers. And now, years later, who really knows what evils lurks in the corn? This frightful cornfield will scare the yell out of you!
Families with small children can enjoy Halloween treats, without the tricks, during the daytime hours (before 7 p.m.), when Worlds of Fun offers scare-free fun. What kid doesn’t love pirates? Kids can join the PEANUTS comic strip characters for sing-along fun at Charlie Brown’s Pirate Adventure and search for treasures and toys during Snoopy’s Big Treasure Hunt. The Magical House on Boo Hill is a haunted house just for the small fry. And illusionists John Bundy and Morgan dig up a treasure chest full of pirate magic in the show, Skullduggery.
There’s also a collection of silly midway shows, including a witch’s storytelling sessions (Hexaba’s Hogwash), a used coffin salesperson’s spiel (Digger’s Used Coffin Lot), and the teasing of a teeny-tiny Witch Doctor (Witch Doctor’s Revenge). Meat Cleaver High Haunted Homecoming is a song-and-dance revue that will delight even the youngest members of the family.
Worlds of Fun’s Halloween Haunt is Kansas City’s largest, bloodiest, and goriest Halloween event! Best of all, it offers unlimited access to nine extreme haunted attractions, dozens of thrilling rides, spooky shows, and daytime scare-free family fun for one drop-dead price that won’t kill the family budget.
Halloween Haunt is open every Friday night, Saturday and Sunday through Halloween, and Thursday, October 28 (limited ride availability and Camp Snoopy closed Friday nights, Haunt evening attractions closed Sundays). All-day admission is only $41.99 on Saturdays and Sundays, and Fright Night admission is only $26.99 after 6 p.m. on Fridays and after 4p.m. on Saturdays.

Wow, what a hauntingly good roundup!
Worlds of Fun uses fog machines to help make their Halloween haunts that much more spooky. And, if the night has some natural fog as well, the experience can be truly frightful. A method that can be very enjoyable is to go through one or more of the "fright zones," and then step back and view the park, and relax, by taking the Worlds of Fun train. Then go to the next haunting experience.
Sounds like great spooky fun!
Those Halloween celebrations are everywhere this time of year.
