Halloween Fun in Topeka

Halloween can be one of the most exciting holidays of the year.  While Thanksgiving and Christmas are considered joyful holidays, Halloween is just plain frightful fun. It is also a great time to spend with family, especially grandchildren.  Often times, parents may be working or have too much on their hands with the kids and Grandpa and Grandma can help out with this mischievous day.  This year, Halloween falls on a Monday, so there will be many events and happenings throughout the weekend leading up to Halloween.

One of the most famous and interesting places to go during the month of October with a great Halloween theme is Gary's Pumpkin PatchGary's is located in Grantville, Kansas just ten minutes north of Topeka, Gary's offers hay rack rides, food, pumpkins, and it's infamous Corn Maize.  The Corn Maize is eight acres in size and loads of fun.  Fairlawn Plaza will be hosting a Halloween Parade and pre-schooler costumer party between 10 to 1 pm on Friday October 28th. Of course, no Halloween in Topeka would complete without Boo at the Zoo, the annual trick or treating at the World Famous Topeka Zoo.

Many churches and community centers offer alternatives to going door to door at Halloween with Trunk or Treat events.  One such event is held this year the Heritage Park Wesleyan Church at 2121 SW Harrison. The event will include church members passing out candy to neighborhood children from the trunks of their cars.  Sounds like a fun time for all!

Remember, whatever fun you have on Halloween with your grandchildren, safety is a must.  The best safety information and ideas can be found at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  They have excellent knowledge of safety and their SAFE HALLOWEEN for trick or treating is must.  Whatever fun you decide on, have a great and safe Topeka Halloween.
