For decades, the Indiana State Parks campgrounds have celebrated Halloween during an October weekend. Starting originally with the campers themselves, the DNR staffs of the parks joined in the fun. Activities are varied, but usually include trick-or-treating in the campground. Keep in mind that most of the campgrounds have no reserved sites left, non-reserved sites will go quickly on Friday. Parks on this list are within 2 hours of Lafayette.
Prophetstown State Park: Event Schedule (link). Trail of Scarecrows can be found on the prairie trail between the Village and Farm, daylight hours.
Oct. 26: Costume Parade & Campground Trick-or-treating, 4-5 p.m. Non-campers, park at the campground entrance lot and walk in. Campers with treats will have a sign, provided by the park, Trick-or-Treaters Welcome Here. (Campground hosts will provide).
7 p.m. Campsite & Pumpkin Judging. Judges will roam the campground and pick the top 3 sites judged on creativity, originality and scariness. Results will be posted at 9 p.m. on the campground shower building bulletin board.
