Halloween is celebrated on the final weekend of Oct., 2013 in the Chicago area. Halloween is on Oct. 31, but there are several organized community events during the weekend of Oct. 26-26, 2013. Following is a listing of a few of the many festivities in Chicago and the suburbs this weekend.
Berwyn: Annual Zombie Walk and Pub Crawl on Roosevelt Road is on Sat., Oct. 26, starting at 4 p.m. $20 donation includes makeup. Also in Berwyn is the Park District Safely Spooky at Proksa Park (5-8:30 p.m.), which includes family friendly activities for $1.
Brookfield: Boo at the Zoo at Brookfield Zoo for Halloween on Sat.-Sun., Oct. 26-27.
Chicago: Spooky Zoo Spectacular at Lincoln Park Zoo is on Sat., Oct. 26.
Crest Hill: Statesville Haunted Prison in Will County is open Wed., Thurs., Fri., Sat. and Sun. The final evening this year is on Sat., Nov. 2.
Elgin: Nightmare on Chicago Street is a zombie event for adults (age 17+) in Elgin, in the western suburbs of Chicago, on Sat., Oct. 26 starting at 6 p.m. The zombie apocalypse includes live music, scares and a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded for Overall Winner, Best Couple or Group Costume, Best Zombie, Best Steampunk, Best Horror and Most Original Costume. Tickets $7 in advance and $10 at the gate.
Glen Ellyn: The annual Glen Ellyn Kids' Parade, led by costumed members of the Glenbard West Drum Line, steps off at 10 a.m. at Prairie Path Park (south of train station between Park Blvd. and Forest Ave.) on Sat. Oct. 26.. Kids should arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. to line up for the parade. Children will not need to register for the parade.
Hoffman Estates: CarnEvil haunted houses at Sears Arena in Hoffman Estates is open through Halloween, Oct. 31. The attraction, with three haunted houses, is open on Sat. and Sun. and on Wed. and Thurs. $25.
Morton Grove: Fear City Haunted House is open on Wed., Thurs., Fri., Sat. and Sun. The final evening is on Sat., Nov. 2. Fear City is at 8240 Austin Ave. in Morton Grove. General admission $25.
Rosemont: Screams in the Park Haunted House attraction is open on Oct. 30 and 31 and Nov. 1 and 2 at NB Financial Park in Rosemont. The haunted house is not recommended for children under 10. Tickets are $15-$25.
Round Lake Beach: Kristof's Haunted House Realm of Terror is open on Fri., Sat., Sun. and Thurs. The final day is on Halloween, Oct. 31. Doors open at 7 p.m. Regular admission is $25. Purchase tickets online for discount.
Schaumburg: Mall-O-Ween is a Halloween event at Woodfield Mall Grand Court on Sat., Oct. 26 (noon-2 p.m.).
Union: Terror on the Railroad haunted attraction at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union runs the final Halloween event on Sat., Oct. 26 (7-11 p.m.). $13.
