With Halloween only a week away, trying to find a costume or come up with a last-minute idea can be downright scary. Savers, the international secondhand store chain, is helping costume-challenged shoppers this year with trend predictions, in-store Halloween fashion shows and easy, do-it-yourself ideas at Savers.com.
Savers’ Halloween Shopping Survey, conducted by Kelton Research, polled 1,000 adults to identify popular costumes and the hottest trends for 2010. Findings revealed that pop culture influences more than one in five people’s costume choices. Savers predicts that Snooki, “The Situation” and the rest of the “Jersey Shore” cast will inspire many, as will characters from recent blockbusters like “Alice in Wonderland”, “Avatar” and “Toy Story 3.” The cast of “True Blood” was named the best group costume inspired by television, followed by the castaways from “Lost” and Michael Scott and his crew from “The Office.”
Get into the spirit of the season at Savers’ free Costume Catwalk fashion show events, featuring ideas for one-of-a-kind costumes for the whole family that fit every budget. Savers’ Costume Consultants showcase the week’s hottest costumes and help shoppers build outfits from scratch. The last one takes place this Thursday at 3 p.m. in every Savers location.
For those who can’t fit in a trip on Thursday, Savers offers up a variety of creative costume ideas, along with downloadable how-to instructions, at Savers.com. Among the ideas are Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and the popular Steampunk look, which combines styles from the Victorian era, classic goth, gypsy and industrial technology. Visitors can also find makeup tutorial videos of the season’s hottest trends, such as “Jersey Shore,” “Avatar,” and “Sparkly Vampire.”
