Kentucky Department of Parks has many activities planned for those wanting to celebrate Halloween 2013 with family and friends. Parks with campgrounds are always popular with a variety of activities including contests for decorations and costumes (some even include pet costumes), hayrides, games, and much more.
Below are a few of the parks with camping events for the last weekend of October.
Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park, near Burkesville, will host a Halloween Campground on October 25 and 26. Beginning on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with games, snacks and ghost stories and continuing through Saturday with trick-or-treating for the little ones. Also on the schedule for Saturday will be hayrides from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at a cost of $3.00 per person. The campsite decorating contest will be at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Grayson Lake State Park, near Olive Hill, will hold a Halloween Fest on Saturday, October 26 with a campsite decoration contest with prizes for the top three finishers and trick-or-treating for children. Call the park at (606) 474-9727 for more information about Halloween Fest.
Pennyrile Forest State Park, near Dawson Springs, will host a Spooky Extravaganza on October 25 through October 27. The weekend will begin with a showing of “Hocus Pocus” in the park’s lodge meeting room at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and will include free popcorn! Other weekend programs scheduled include a campsite decorating contest, a costume contest for children and adults, a pumpkin carving contest, and Halloween arts at crafts. Trick-or-treating at the lodge and campground will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The park will show “Hotel Transylvania” (rated PG) in the lodge at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
