Today is ‘All Hallows Eve’ (better known as ‘Halloween), which is the pagan celebration of remembering the dead. But here in America we like to celebrate trying to freak one another out by donning costumes, and then pay homage to consumerism (and America’s growing epidemic of obesity) by giving out sleighs of candy to children (and insidious teenagers). For those of us who have out grown “playing dress up,” we find ourselves either at parties or stuck at home, baby-sitting the door, ready to yield our coffers of sweets to the waiting youth.
If you find yourself in the latter, what do you do while waiting for the eager youth to arrive?
Chances are, your entertainment system (television) is located near your entrance door, so why not pass the time revisiting a classic? “But there are so many horror movies to choose from, Orion!” You’re probably not saying right now.
Well, I’ve gone ahead and done the hard part for you. Allow me to present my ‘Halloween 2013 Movie Pick.’
Just to be on the safe side, I chose a classic this year and it is, none other than, John Carpenter’s 1976 classic, ‘Halloween.’
This film stars Donald Pleasance and Jamie Lee Curtis in this tale about an escaped psychopathic killer, Michael Myers (not Austin Powers), who wishes to revisit his previous crime of murdering a young woman in his home town on Halloween night, 1963, wearing a spray painted William Shatner mask
(If you don’t like my suggestion, I’ve attached a video with five suggestions.)
Happy Halloween and go ahead and answer your door, trust me, it’s not Myers, or Shatner for that matter….
