Hallmark releases its first gay Father’s Day card

Just in time for Father’s Day, Hallmark has released an eCard featuring two dads! The eCard was released with four other "Love Is..." designs in honor of LGBT Pride Month, and they are currently featured on Hallmark’s facebook page. The cards were created by transgender activist, Kylie Wu, who maintains a blog known as Trans Girl Next Door. Wu released the following statement about the new cards celebrating diversity and LGBT Pride month:

"I’m so proud to be the artist involved in making the first ever same-sex Hallmark eCard featuring two gay dads. And I’m proud of Hallmark for celebrating people’s differences! It doesn’t matter who’s in it, LOVE makes a family."

The eCard begins with an image of a tie and a statement that says, “Handsome tie, I’ll take two.” It then continues with a similar progression of taking two bouquets of flowers and two identical coffee mugs. At the end, a child gives the presents to her two gay fathers. The story is closed with a statement that says, “The greatest dad in the world…I’ve got two!! Happy Father’s Day, Dad & Pop!” So far, Hallmark’s gay Father’s Day card option is only available as an eCard and is not available in stores.

Hallmark also released its first Mother’s Day cards with two moms earlier this year as well. One card reads “Moms are second to none" on the front, with the interior stating, “How does anyone ever get by with just one?” Hallmark being inclusive of the LGBT community is another sign that LGBT people are becoming more acceptable in society. There’s still a long way to go, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
