For years the world of TV and movies seemed to be at odds in regards to actors career paths. Thanks to some amazing TV shows over the last few years TV now seems to be the place to go with a wide variety of famed A-list actors coming to the small screen. Now Steven Spielberg is producing the all-new science fiction series Extant from creator Mickey Fisher headlined by Halle Berry.
The series follows an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. In addition to Berry, the series stars Goran Visnjic (ER), Pierce Gagnon (Looper), Camryn Manheim (Ghost Whisperer), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai), Grace Gummer (Larry Crowne), and Michael O’Neill (Dallas Buyers Club).
With Spielberg involved and Berry starring this has the potential to be a great series, but science fiction is always tricky so let’s hope they manage to bring together an intriguing story and direction to keep the audience on their toes and intrigued for more. Thankfully the series was picked up straight to series with 13 episodes as opposed to the normal pilot stage. While this isn’t a guarantee of quality it does mean someone saw something they thought would work so let’s hope the audience sees the same.
Prepare to return to Earth when Extant premieres on July 9th on CBS.
