"Superstar" Billy Graham, the man who defeated Bruno Sammartino for the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship and who had a memorable feud with "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes that featured many bloody "bull-rope" matches was hospitalized on Wednesday with double pneumonia.
Graham has been ill of late with problems involving his heart and had been seeking treatment at the Mayo Clinic. Graham had been the recipient of a liver transplant some ten years ago after his own liver failed due to years of steroid abuse among other things. This latest set-back is another in a long string of health issues the "Superstar" has battled with.
Of late Graham has made news for his comments geared toward WWE Champion CM Punk, who made disparaging remarks toward Sammartino during an in-ring promo to build a feud with The Rock. Graham spoke out against Punk and took shots at WWE CEO Vince McMahon as well. Chris Jericho, who called Graham a "mark" which is the ultimate insult to a professional wrestler, was also on the receiving end of a biting response from Graham.
It seems Graham has been resigned to his fate, whatever may lie ahead for the legendary star, going so far as to make his own funeral and burial arrangements (he will be buried by former WWE Superstar Eddie Guerrero in Arizona). Doctors are optimistic that Graham will recover from this latest medical crises.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Superstar and we hope for a quick recovery.
