A potential clarification has been posted in regards to a recent rumor suggesting that Valve filed a trademark in Europe for “Half-Life 3.” According to an update from 8th Circuit on Oct. 4, the Trademarks and Design Registration Office of the European Union removed all traces of the filing from their website.

The “Half-Life 3” trademark was previously listed by the organization for the past several days. The discovery led to a firestorm of excitement as fans have been clamoring to hear more about the sequel for years. However, a few individuals also question the validity of the trademark since gaming companies, especially Valve, are usually careful with leaking projects in advance. The removal by Trademarks and Design Registration Office of the European Union suggested that the filing may have been a hoax.

Valve has been busy lately with several big announcements. The company recently revealed their plans for gaming in the living room by unveiling the Steam OS, Steam Controller and Steam Machines. The sales for these products will greatly benefit “Half-Life 3,” especially in the video game is exclusive.

The “Half-Life” series started with the release of the original game in 1998. The latest entry in the franchise, “Half-Life 2: Episode Two,” came out in 2007. You can check out screenshots from the second game in the slideshow near the top of this article.
