Haley Bonar was discovered by one of her idols, Alan Sparhawk of the band Low, while playing at an open mic event. The next day, the 20-year-old Bonar had dropped out of school and was on the road opening for Low as they toured the U.S. Bonar has since toured with Andrew Bird, Mason Jennings, David Garza, Amos Lee, Great Lake Swimmers, Pieta Brown, Charlie Parr, Langhorne Slim, and a host of others. A Minneapolis resident, Bonar has won two Minnesota Music Awards and has been featured on Showtime’s The United States of Tara and MTV’s Teen Moms.
Haley Bonar has released four albums and a number of EPs. Her latest album, Golder, came out in April of 2011. A song from the album, "Silver Zephyrs", is featured in the nearby video. Bonar expects to release her fifth album later this year. When not touring on her own or recording, Bonar has started a punk/new wave band named Gramma's Boyfriend to keep her busy.
