Following a massive earthquake which devastated the island nation of Haiti on Tuesday January 12th 2009, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt issued a statement pledging support to help Haiti earthquake victims. Angelina Jolie is known for her work as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations.
Health problems facing Haiti earthquake victims
The health problems which are facing Haiti earthquake victims include:
- lack of clean water
- threat of malaria
- risk of bactericidal infections
- risk of other infections
- diarrhea.
Women are particularly vulnerable to health problems after a natural disaster such as Haiti's earthquake and it is believed that there are thousands of pregnant women in Haiti in need of help.
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Tiger Woods support Wyclef Jean Haiti Relief Group
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have pledged $1 million to help Haiti earthquake victims and reported to ET online:
“We are devastated by the news from Haiti. We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”
In addition, the New York Daily News reports that Tiger Woods may be considering a $3 million donation to the Wyclef Jean relief group Yele to aid Haiti's earthquake victims.
Wyclef Jean is a Haiti native; to pledge support to the relief group Yele, text 'Yele' to 501501 and $5 will be charged to the person's cell phone bill or visit the Yele web site.
