Hairball, Boombox, and Eddie Shaw top tonight's concert calendar

For those looking for some live music tonight, here are Central Iowa's top Friday concerts.

Eighties arena rock tribute band Hairball will be playing the Jacobson Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds tonight at 8 p.m. The band is the Midwest's top tribute draw and mimics the likes of Gun 'n Roses, Warrant, Poison, Alice Cooper, Poison, KISS, and more. Tickets to the show are still available through the Fairgrounds website or at the door for $25.

Alabama rockers Boombox will headline Wooly's tonight at 8:30 p.m. The versatile duo consists of Zion Godchaux, whose parents both played with the Grateful Dead for more than 8 years, and Russ Randolph. Boombox combines EDM with live rock, blues, psychedelia, and funk to create a unique concert experience. The group's latest, Filling in the Color, came out this month. Tickets for the 16-and-over show are $17, and they may be purchased online through Ticketfly or at the door. DJ Ramona will open the show.

Eddie Shaw & The Wolfgang will play the Maintenance Shop in Ames tonight at 9 p.m. The special seated show is part of the M-Shop's 40th Anniversary celebration. Eddie Shaw has played sax for/with some of music's greats: Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ike& Tina Turner, Howlin' Wolf, Bill Wyman, Magic Sam, Otis Rush, and more. Shaw has received numerous awards. Most recently he won the 2013 Blues Music Award for "Best Instrumentalist-Horn" and was awarded the 2013 Blues Blast "Lifetime Achievement Award". Tickets for the show are $14 for the general public and $9 for ISU students. They may be purchased online through MidwesTix or at the door.

Also in Ames tonight, DG's tap House hosts a night of blues and folk music featuring performances by David Zollo, Chad Elliott, and newcomers Electric Jury. The music starts at 9 p.m., and there will be a $5 cover at the door. This is a 21-and-over event.
