Hailey Owens: Found dead in school employee's vehicle

Hailey Owens, a 10-year-old girl who had been missing since Tuesday afternoon after she had been walking near her home in Springfield, Missouri, has been found dead. Hailey Owens’ body was found inside a vehicle – a gold Ford Ranger - that belongs to a public school employee, according to WebProNews on Wednesday.

After the discovery of the body, Craig Wood was arrested and charged with first degree murder. The police tracked his vehicle to his residence after it was described by a witness.

An Amber Alert was enacted across several states after Hailey Owens had been reported as missing.

According to Norm Ridder, the Superintendent of the Springfield Public Schools who released a statement on Wednesday regarding the murder, Wood has been suspended from employment with the Springfield Public Schools pending the investigation in the case.

The statement asserts that Craig Michael Wood has been employed by the Springfield Public Schools since August 18, 1998. He is a paraprofessional and an athletic coach at Pleasant View K-8 School.

Hailey had been a student at Westport Elementary School and had attended Bowerman Elementary School previously.
