Hailey Owens case: Amber Alert cancelled after body found, arrest made (videos)

An Amber Alert has been cancelled in the case of a missing 10-year-old girl who authorities believe was kidnapped and then murdered in Missouri. An Amber Alert was issued for Hailey Owens on Feb. 18, 2014, after neighbors reported seeing a man driving a truck through a neighborhood street several times. According to witnesses, Carlos and Michelle Edwards, the man approached the girl, spoke with her, then pulled her into the vehicle and sped away. Witnesses were able to give investigators with the Springfield Police Department a description of the vehicle, the perpetrator and the correct license plate number.

Though authorities were able to trace the vehicle back to Craig Michael Wood, 45, it was too late. When investigators arrived at his home, located approximately 5 miles away from the abduction site, they made a grisly discovery: A child’s body that matched Hailey’s physical and clothing description deceased. While it will take time for DNA analysis to make a positive identification, Hailey’s family has confirmed it is their daughter and police have officially arrested and charged Craig Michael Wood with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and kidnapping.
