H1N1 Virus: Protect youself in the gym
Germs are spread easily in a gym – what can you do to protect yourself? Below are tips from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to prevent the spread of N1H1:
When at the gym use disinfectant wipes to wipe off equipment prior to and after use.
When coughing, cough into your sleeve or cover coughs and sneezes with a Kleenex – even if not sick this sets a good example for individuals who cough into their hands and touch equipment afterwards.
Throw tissue in the trash after use.
Do not rub eyes or touch your face after handling dumbbells and weights.
Wash hands for at least 30 seconds after exercising at the gym with soap.
Use hand sanitizer when soap is not available.
Wash hands after sneezing and/or throwing out tissue.
When sick, stay home until fully recovered.
Teach kids to cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when they cough.
Users who sign up for CDC's text messaging pilot will receive 2-3 messages a week from CDC with pertinent information about how to stay healthy, updates on emergencies, vital H1N1 information, and other important health messages.
