I've viewed, judged, refereed litterally hundreds of boxing events but Bricktown had a first. Three draws on one card. This might lead you to believe the boxing was boring but it actually enhanced the event. Good action in all seven bouts kept the crowd "hollerin" and getting their moneys worth. Here's how it went down.
Bout#1 - Lawton Oklahoma's Jose Guadarrama (143#) looked bigger and stronger and won an easy four round decision over Del City Oklahoma's Steve Ivory (139#). Ivory is tough and 'gave it go" but was a bit out classed.
Bout#2 - The first "DRAW" of the night was a "bang-up" good fight with Del City Oklahoma's Shadi Shawareb (135#) winning on one judges card over Oklahoma City's Shiwone Gortman (135#). But the bout ended in a "majority draw" when the other two judges had it even at two round each. This was these two "battlers" second go at each other and I for one would pay to see a third.
Bout#3 - This was probably the bloodiest fight in my boxing viewing history, Edmond Oklahoms's Andy Billups (149#) went down in round one when a hard right from Bossier Louisiana's Brandon Rondon (151#) caught him flush on the jaw. Billups staggered to his feet at the count of eight and survived the round. Then came round two and the blood started pouring off both boxers from a head butt. The ringside doctor check the cuts and let the fight continue. At the end of four rounds Rondon won a split decision but the blood was so heavy both guys looked like they'd been in an M.M.A. contest. This definately would make for a good rematch. Just watch the heads guys.
Bout#4 - The second "DRAW" of the night was a good, evenly matched "GIRL-FIGHT". The bout was ruled a "majority draw" when two of the three judges called it even,two rounds each. And again this would make for a great rematch.
Bout#5 - The third "DRAW" came when two of the tree judges called the contest a 'majority draw" after five hard fought rounds. Shawnee Oklahoma's Dennis Knifechief (153#) and Durango Mexico's Edgar Galvan (155#) battleing for the second time "laid it all on the line" but neither man dominated enough to win the fight. What's with these judges. can't they pick a winner. OPPS, guess I'd better shut my mouth sense I was one of the judges giving out those drews.
Bout#6 - This was a ten round "Mid-western States Cruiserweight" title bout. The fight was pretty close for three and a half rounds, then Oklahoma City's Terrance Jones (179#) got careless and Dallas Texas' James Johnson (185#) stopped him with a series of hard head shots.
Bout#7 - The "Main event" was also a title bout. Spencer Oklahoma's Lydell Rhodes (140#) won the "Midwestern States Junior-welterweight Title" with a six round unanimous decision over New Orleans Rynell Griffin (138#). Rhodes in (13 and 0) and that's great but sometimes he makes it "look easy" and sometimes he makes it "look hard". Comon Lydell, with your talent you should be stopping these guys, NOT PLAYING WITH THEM. The crowd will love you all the more for it.
