A gynecologist from Johns Hopkins Hospital secretly videotaped his patients using a camera hidden in a pen around his neck. According to ABC News on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, it was an employee who got suspicious of Dr. Nikita Levy and reported him. When police got involved, Levy took his own life.
John Hopkins Hospital has set up a hotline, which more than 2,000 patients and former patients of Levy’s have contacted already. Class-action lawsuits against the hospital have already been filed in court. The law enforcement investigation continues as they try to determine if anyone else was involved in making the tapes, found in Levy’s home. The investigation will also look into the possibility of the tapes being sold or posted online.
The 54 year-old doctor wore a pen-like device around his neck, which also contained a hidden a camera. When the employee drew suspicious of the doctor’s insistence of wearing that pen during examinations, she went to the hospital officials at John Hopkins Hospital on Feb. 4. The unnamed woman reported to the hospital officials that she suspected the doctor had a camera in the pen-like device.
The hospital officials questioned Levy in his office and while there, they noticed more of the pen-like devices, reported by the employee, around his office and on Levy. The hospital officials barred the doctor from seeing patients and walked him off the hospital property.
The authorities were then contacted and the law enforcement investigation led to the discovery that Levy had been videotaping his patients for some time. As the police investigation closed in on him, Levy killed himself at his home on Feb. 18.
So far the investigators have found “large amounts of multimedia evidence."
