Gwyneth Paltrow is forgoing her annual three-week detox fast this month so she can indulge her carb cravings.
"I am not on a detox. I am not on a diet," Paltrow wrote on her blog Jan 10. "I know, New Year's cleansing and all that. Not this year. Can't do it. Maybe later in the year. Maybe in the spring. So for now, I would like to continue with my pasta and cheese, but perhaps be more mindful of ingredients."
Gwyneth, who maintains a svelte bikini body at 40, typically embarks on a strict detox diet (consisting mostly of liquid meals and salads) for three weeks each January, but is postponing the fast this year as she promotes her new cookbook.
"It's All Good" is Paltrow's second cookbook and features lots of nutritious recipes that she claims can help with weight loss and overall health. Gwyneth's diet typically includes lots of nutritionally packed "super-foods," including avocados, beans, blueberries, cruciferous vegetables, spinach, walnuts, wild salmon, moderate amounts of dairy-free chocolate and chia seeds.
In addition to following a portion-controlled diet, the slender 5-foot-9 Gwyneth works out up to two hours daily. "I work out so I can eat what I want," Paltrow said. "I adore food and have loved cooking for the past 20 years."
Gwyneth, who has credited celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson for helping her shed the stubborn excess weight after her second pregnancy, says daily exercise is a top priority.
"Exercise is key for me, even if it’s just 15 minutes of yoga to get the blood flowing," she said. "I had to work hard to get [my body] like this, but now I'm here it's so great because I don't have to think about it. I can just enjoy life. What a relief that is. I can eat what I want as long as I exercise."
