Oscar winner. Celebrity mom. Virtuous vegan and cookbook author (My Father's Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness). Gwyneth Paltrow seems to have it all. And yet, one question remains: can she really cook? The question arises not just because she's impeccably slender...but also because her cookbook was one of the reasons that she made GQ's "uninfluential list."
Famed food writer and Vogue food critic Jeffrey Steingarten took on the challenging of answering the "but can she cook" question with an indepth "investigative" look at the life and kitchen of Gwyneth. In his article, he comments on the "sharpness of her knives" and the fact that she has outdoor pizza ovens, which he takes as "the mark of her seriousness as a cook. (Question: does having a can opener and a can of Campbell's make me a soup chef worthy of Martha Stewart's attention?)
However: Jeffrey does admit to, after tasting a few concoctions of Gwyneth's, hearing his inner critic question why the pizza crust wasn't chewy...not to mention roasted cauliflower "which would have been absolutely scrumptious if I hadn't burnt some of the florets." Summary: let's just call Gwyneth a great Glee guest actress...and leave the cooking to Campbell's.
