According to the Washington Post, Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband of 11 years, Chris Martin, have decided to separate. Chris Martin, 37, is a songwriter and guitarist as well as the lead vocalist for the band, “Coldplay.” Paltrow issued a statement about the decision to separate on Monday evening via her lifestyle-oriented website, Goop.com.

Titled “Conscious Uncoupling” it stated in part, “It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.” The couple are the parents of two children: 9-year old Apple and 7-year old Moses.

Rumors had been swirling regarding the state of the couple's marriage for some time. The actress herself had even admitted in a Harper's Bazaar interview that the marriage had sometimes been challenging. In 2003, the Hollywood A-list couple were married in a secret ceremony in California after meeting backstage at a “Coldplay” concert in 2002. The 41-year old Paltrow won an Oscar in 1999 for her acting performance in “Shakespeare in Love.” More recently, she has co-starred in the “Iron Man” films.
