The Gwinnett Braves will open the 2014 season on Thursday night when they take on International League South Division rival Durham on the road. The G-Braves are working to bounce back from what many considered an underachieving season in 2013.
The G-Braves opening day roster has 12 players that spent time with Gwinnett last year, including 2013 International League midseason All-Star Ernesto Mejia and 2013 IL postseason All-Star Joey Terdoslavich. Newcomers include catcher Christian Bethancourt and infielder Tommy La Stella, ranked the Braves’ No. 2 and 9 prospects by Baseball America, respectively.
Atlanta Braves' right-hander Gavin Floyd will make his first minor league rehab start in the opener. The 31-year old is working his way back from “Tommy John” surgery in 2013 and will be pitching in his first professional game since April 27, 2013.
The Gwinnett Braves are the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and play in the South Division of the International League, one of two Triple-A leagues. The G-Braves play home games at Coolray Field .
