Want to look like Gwen Stefani, who even during her pregnancy rocks an enviable body? Then get on the low-carbohydrate diet bandwagon and use carb cycling. That's what her former trainer Mike Heatlie believes is the only way to go when it comes to winning at weight loss, according to his interview with the Huffington Post.
"To do this, one needs to reduce the amount of carbohydrate in their diet -- less bread, pasta, potatoes and rice. It goes without saying that sugar and high-fat foods such as French fries are extremely limited!" says Mike.
But he admits that it's not easy, which is why he promotes carb cycling.
"Weight loss is at least 75 to 90 percent diet. The best diet for burning fat and losing weight is carb/calorie cycling. To burn fat, we must drop the levels of stored carbohydrate (glycogen) in the muscles and the liver, and therefore the body starts using more stored fat for fuel and metabolic processes," he explains.
But because completely cutting out carbohydrates "isn't easy," Mike believes in the carb cycling approach.
"It is advisable to “cycle” the intake where one would be more strict on certain days than others," he says.
