Dave Brockie whose onstage persona of Oderus Urungus as the frontman for the outrageous band Gwar was found dead Sunday evening at his home.

No cause of death has been given yet as news of his death spread quickly among friends and fans alike, all were in a state of disbelief.

"I have had a few bad days in my life but this one truly ranks right up there," former Gwar guitarist Steve Douglas said via Facebook.

The band, considered 'thrash metal' for their outlandish costumes, politically incorrect lyrics and onstage antics as well as the hard driving music, was a mixture of science fiction and horror and their stage show was often considered as crazy as it was entertaining.

"Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known," ex-GWAR bassist Mike Bishop said.

Death is no stranger to the band, in 2011 guitarist Cory Smoot, who was Flattus Maximus, was found dead on the bands tour bus and it was determined he had passed away due to coronary artery disease.

Brockie founded Gwar in 1984 and the band has had numerous members over the years but regardless of who the band consisted of the proverbial glue that held things together was Brockie. "Battle Maximus" was the 13th studio album released by the band last year and each album was met with limited success. The live show was where Gwar shined the most with the expensive and high tech costumes as well as the theatrical production made the band one of the "must see" acts.

"I'm saddened to learn Brockie died, he was one of a kind man," pro wrestling star Mad Man Pondo said. "He was one of the coolest people I've ever met."

When new first broke of the passing of Brockie many thought it was just another internet hoax but the management team for the band is expected to release a statement later today. The future of the band has yet to be determined but it is expected that with the death of Brockie will also come the death of the band.
