The mighty space monsters of GWAR, fresh from their GWAR-B-Q and viking funeral for late leader Oderus Urungus, have announced a massive fall tour that will include a Denver concert at the Summit Music Hall on Halloween night.
News of Oderus's death shocked the metal world in March, but in a testament to the band's strength and dedication to fans, GWAR will continue to tour without Dave Brockie's infamous character. Today the band announced a 50 date tour that will kick off mid-October, and hit the the Summit Music Hall with Decapitated, American Sharks, and Havoc in support on October 31.
The theme of the tour will be the hunt for Oderus, as the band revisits virtually every North American city in search of their missing leader. It is unclear who will be handling vocals in Oderus's place, but Mike Bishop, the original Beefcake, performed at the GWAR-B-Q as new character Blothar.
Expect the show to be a combination of GWAR's usual bombastic, over-the-top bloody slaughterfest mixed with a tribute to fallen Scumdog Brockie, as well as supplemented by whatever Halloween madness presents itself. Many Denver fans will surely show up in full Halloween costumes, adding an extra layer of fun to what has always been and will always be the most outrageous heavy metal show in the universe.
Fears of GWAR's early demise now appear to false; all hail Oderus!
Tickets for all shows go on sale this weekend; read my final interview with Oderus from last fall by clicking here.
