It is probably safe to say that Guyana is one of those countries not too many people know about. Located in South America, it was a former Dutch colony and a British colony for over 200 years. It is a non-Spanish speaking country with one of the largest unspoiled rainforests in South America.
You might want to get to know more about the country and the people by attending the Guyfest 2011 in Crownsville, MD (Anne Arundel county). This is the second annual Guyana Cultural Festival and will be held on July 2, 2011 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
There will be musical performances by Jumo & Adrian Dutchin, Geeta Bisram, Angels Caribbean Band, Terry Gaj Raj, Shelly G, Fojo, Eddie Neblett, Keysha Fresh, and Aunty Comsee, Tassa Drummers, Afro Drummers, and traditional Indian and African cultural dancing.
Children will be kept busy with Clowns, storytelling, face painting, maypole plaiting, and more in the children's area. The whole family will be glad to know that they can taste delicious caribbean/Guyanese food while they are at the event.
