The marine wildlife artist and conservationist Guy Harvey is supporting the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network (FYCCN). A $50,000 check was presented by Steve Stock, president of The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and Guy Harvey Inc. to the Wildlife Foundation of Florida to contribute to the funding of FYCCN saltwater fishing camps where sport fishing conservation and stewardship practices are taught to youth.
The FYCCN is sponsored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to promote fish and wildlife conservation in a new generation. The initiative is dedicated to providing a network throughout Florida of sustainable locations where youth can take part in outdoor activities that inspire an appreciation of the states natural resources and encourage conservation stewardship of them.
Health conditions often associated with a sedentary lifestyle are on a rise in children and young adults so the FYCCN has been developed with the idea of encouraging young people to discover the joys of nature and the outdoors. The FYCCN offers "Wild Outdoors" experiences where youth can experience activities such as fishing, canoeing, shooting sports, hiking, camping and deep-woods orienteering. For outdoor experiences closer to home the FYCCN offers "Near Outdoor" experiences where youth can take part in urban fishing, archery in school, birding competitions or habitat programs through the school system.
Numerous people have worked diligently to bring the concept of FYCCN to reality through donations, partnerships, volunteers and leadership.
"We are proud and excited to partner with FYCCN in furtherance of our marine educational programs and goals," Dr. Harvey was quoted in a recent FWC press release. "This partnership will help us to teach and develop the next generation of responsible Florida sportsmen and women."
